2023–2024 — Returning to Offshore Work While Still Caring for My Mother
After 2014, there was a long break in my offshore career.
During those years, my main responsibility was caring for my mother.
Then, in 2023, I had an opportunity to return to offshore work.
From January 31 to April 25, 2023,
I worked aboard the QMS NOUF jack-up barge in Qatar.
After that, I experienced another gap in employment.
From March 02 to April 23, 2024,
I worked on the Leighton Stealth project offshore Mumbai.
- This did not mean that I had found continuous employment.
- A few months of work.
- Then waiting at home again.
- Then another job opportunity.
- Then another break.
This was how my working life continued. Amid these circumstances, April 2024 arrived.
At that time, I was offshore Mumbai.

April 22–24, 2024 — My Mother's Final Journey
April 22, 2024 — the day my mother passed away.
At that time, I was not at home. I was working offshore Mumbai.
My wife was beside my mother when she passed away.
My wife, who had cared for my mother for many years, stood strong even in that deeply painful moment.
I could not reach home immediately.
On April 23, my return journey from offshore continued.
Traveling by boat, helicopter, and through the harbor, I reached home on April 24.
Until then, my wife did not set aside her responsibilities.
Together with her mother, she took care of everything necessary for my mother's funeral, from arranging the place and the tent to coordinating with the pastor.
I informed my elder brother of the wish my mother had expressed.
With his agreement, we held the funeral and the remaining ceremonies in Kakinada. Considering my financial situation, my elder brother bore most of the expenses. He contributed more than half and provided very substantial help. My elder brother also loved our mother dearly.
At that time, my mother's body was kept in the ordinary parking area in front of our apartment building.
On April 22 and 23, my wife, her mother, and her elder sister stayed beside my mother's body without sleeping, caring for everything.
I will never forget the service they rendered and the love they showed during those two days.
When I could not reach home, not only my wife but also her mother and elder sister stayed by my mother's side.
On one hand was the grief of losing my mother. On the other was the service, responsibility, and love shown by my wife and her family members while I was away — both remain in my heart.
It is an especially significant and sorrowful memory in my life.
